PROGRAM
An intensive two-week residency program designed for artists, who are interested in combining equine studies and visual arts. We invited artists, who are open for horse culture, as well as riders open for the arts. We beleive that riding can be art too. Both program included practice and lessons of horsemanship, horsearchery, anatomically correct riding. In 2018 we run two residencies with different dates. HARP is centered around different themes each year. This summer we were focusing on drawing and printmaking. We interpretate drawing and printmaking widely in contemporary art and we are open for experimenting with both historical and new methods and materials. We were experimenting conceptually, using traditional techniques. Professional supervision by printmaker László Kasnyik was available for all, it was not necessary to have previous experience with printmaking. Copper engraving, etching, woodcut, linocut, monotype could be printed. We organised excursions to the Kassai Valley, to Szépalma Stud and to the gallery of Első Magyar Látványtár in Tapolca-Díszel, as well as to Budapest Parlament. We visited some local historical sites, such as the Barnag Stations of the Cross and the Baroque Benedictin Monastry of Tihany. An exhibition from the works made here was curated at the end of the residency in August in the HARP barn with a performance by Clair Brandt, Georgia Graham and Veszely Beáta, in collaboration with Arabell, the horse.

AIM
Our aim is to deliver our interest into the field of international artistic research with opening up connections between equine culture and art, and making connections between equine and art practitioners and professionals. We would like to rethink art today in relation to horsemanship and riding in an environment in which ideas are challenged. HARP is open for artistic practice and riding styles coming from both, Western and Eastern traditions.

PROGRAM LEADERS
Veszely Beáta (DLA) is an artist and Szmrecsányi Márton is a horse trainer and horsearcher. Both are dedicated to research the knowledge of old riding masters, the history of equine imagery in art and to develop their riding naturally, academically and classically, as well as to share their knowledge with others.
